Woman gunned down

CHAKWAL: A young woman was shot dead allegedly by her relative apparently in the name of so-called honour, police said on Wednesday.

According to police, the 25-year-old woman eloped with a man from Padhrar village on September 9.

On assurance of her family members that if she returns, she will not be hurt, the woman returned on Wednesday and directly went to her elder sister’s home in Kallar Kahar.

“Her elder sister told her father about her arrival who came to pick her on Wednesday morning,” a police official told Dawn.

The official added that as the father and the woman reached their home in Maira village, her uncle shot her dead.

“The family members were not ready to get a case registered against the killer as they were of the view that they have murdered her due to her fault,” the official said.

However, acting promptly the District Police Officer Mohammad Haroon Joiya ordered the Kallar Kahar Police to register a case and arrest the accused. The police registered a case on behalf of state. SHO Kallar Kahar Police Station Khizer Hayat became the complainant in the case. “We have registered a case against three accused including father and two uncles of the deceased and her father. The other two accused would soon be arrested,” an official said.
