Chakwal eminent journalist passes away

CHAKWAL: Yunus Awan, the eminent journalist of Chakwal has passed away on Tuesday evening while covering Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s rally due to cardiac arrest. He was 57.

“I and Yunus Sahib just reached at the gate of a building where PTI’s chief Imran Khan also just reached to launch membership campaign. Due to the arrival of Mr. Khan there was huge rush at the gate. During that rush Yunus Sahib fell down due to massive heart attack”, Taleem Khan a close friend who was accompanying Mr. Awan told Dawn.

Mr. Awan was rushed to the district headquarters hospital on a police vehicle. The doctors at the hospital tried their best but he could not survive.

Mr. Awan was the editor of three local weeklies and was also district correspondent of Daily Dunya and Dunya News. He started his career in journalism in 1985. During 32 years career he worked for Daily Imroz, Daily Markaz, Daily Khabren, Daily Ausaf, Dunya News and Daily Dunya.

He also started a weekly newspaper “Aasar” in 1985 which was followed by “Chakwal Point” and later another weekly called, “Local Akhbar”.

He left two daughters and a wife among the grieved.

“The loss caused by his death could not be described in words”, moaned PTI’s northern region vice president Raja Yasir Humayun Sarfraz.
